Tasmanian Wonderland

It felt like a hectic week leading up to our departure for Tasmania. Just the thought of surviving two weeks away with an 11 month old was exhausting! But after a full day on the boat and a night in Launceston, we finally made it to Blackman's Bay, South of Hobart and we knew it was going to be a wonderful time.
We went at that time of year to see the boats of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race come in. It turned out to be the fastest year on record with the winner beating us into Hobart by about seven hours but we arrived just as the runner-up sailed in. We saw the huge mast of Ragamuffin sailing along as we drove over the bridge into town. The Taste of Tasmania was also on so we enjoyed some tasty seafood there. And perhaps best of all was the Kids in the Park set-up in the gardens across the road from The Taste where there was plenty for kids to see and do.
On our way to Hobart we stopped in Richmond where we found a gorgeous teddy called Stanley. He wanted to come home with us, and Jess thought that was a wonderful idea.
Blackman's Bay. We stayed right on the water which was just lovely.
Jess' first day at the beach. She's wasn't too sure to start with, but soon got the hang of it!
Her second visit was much more successful. She loved playing in the sand and with the water in her bucket.
Jess started walking a couple of days after we arrived. It was an amazing time!

Story time with Dad in the evenings is always a nice time.
A fun friend at Salamanca
Wild Oats XI, the winner, is massive - it's called a Maxi for a reason!
Tasty little seafood platter for lunch
Jess at the Park having a ball!
Being out and about so much was very tiring though
Having a nice break at Peppermint Bay winery

We left Hobart as the heat wave struck which was good timing. We spent the hottest day in the cool of the car driving to Cradle mountain, where we spent three nights.
Having a break on the way to Cradle Mt.
It was great to be back at Cradle Mt. It was, of course, different this time with Jess.

One on the highlights of Cradle was a little nature walk we did. It was our first family bushwalk!
There were four little tunnels showing that wildlife in the area at different times of the day/night/seasons. They were fantastic and Jess loved all the pictures of the animals.

A lovely afternoon tea at our cabin
A typical morning play scene
As close as we got to Cradle Mountain
Jess loved the pademelons that came to visit us at our cabin in the evenings.
At our house in Davenport, Jess found a teddy friend whom she carried all around with her.
From Cradle Mt it was off to Stanley for a couple of nights. It was a beautiful place and we will being going back again for sure. Finally, it was back to Davenport to wait for our boat. We took another day sail, which didn't feel quite as long on the way home. This time, Jess was running about the boat rather than crawling! It was a great holiday all round. The only question is, when do we get to go back?
