The South Island was one breathe-taking place followed by another, and another, and so on. After much umming and ahhing, a decided to take an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound. It was like nothing I've seen before and we loved every second of the too-short trip.
We bused our way up the west coast, stopping at Franz Josef glacia along the way. I was sick for a couple of days but Roland took the opportunity explore the river of ice with a group.
By the time my birthday came around we were by the coastal waters of Marlborough Sounds. Three days of sea kayaking were the perfect way to see the area. The top picture is the view from our second campsite. We then moved to the North Island where a hire car was waiting for us. We're now making our way towards the Bay of Islands where we are going to do a five day sailing course in the final week of our trip.
